The California Junior Lifeguard Programs, in association with the Newport Dunes Resort and Marina, are proud to announce that we are in our eighth year of the Back Bay summer Camp program.
Designed with care, it provides our participants with a safe and well supervised introduction to the ocean environment. With a combination of aquatic and dry land activities, combined with a healthy dose of plain old “FUN”, it is designed to help build physical endurance and coordination, as well as improve the participants overall confidence.
The Back-Bay summer camp has much to offer that sets it apart from other summer camps:
A central location, near Jamboree Road and Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, is convenient to all of Orange County.
Supervision and instruction are provided by trained and certified professional rescue personnel from the California Junior Lifeguard Programs, a leader in youth aquatic safety instruction and education with more than 19 years experience. All instructors are well skilled in the training of participants of all ages. This camp is a good starting point for participants who are not yet ready to venture into the ocean environment or have not yet met the age or tryout requirements of other aquatic programs.
We offer a balanced program of physical conditioning and aquatic education in a less stressful environment.
WHAT IS THE BACK-BAY SUMMER CAMP?
The Back-Bay summer camp is a one week long day camp that provides the participant with an introduction to the ocean in a calm and sheltered environment with no waves.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
The camp is open to all children ages 6 through 12 years of age. All participants should be able to swim at a basic level. There are NO tryouts for the Back-Bay Summer Camp.
All programs operated by the CAJG offer step-by-step skill development with a safety-first motto. We take pride in offering a variety of challenging activities with expert instruction in a fun atmosphere. Camaraderie, self respect, physical conditioning and good clean fun are all key aspects.
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE BACK-BAY SUMMER CAMP?
It is our goal that every participant leaves our camp with the following:
An increased level of confidence in their abilities in the ocean environment.
A basic knowledge of ocean safety, health and nutrition, and first-aid.
A greater respect for their surroundings and environment.
The desire to continue experiencing all that the ocean has to offer.
The Back-Bay Camp instructors were selected from our staff for their proven abilities in instructing and supervising our youngest participants. All are first-aid and CPR certified lifeguards and instructors. All instructors must pass an extensive interview and demanding physical fitness testing process.
WHERE IS THE BACK-BAY SUMMER CAMP LOCATED?
The Back-Bay Summer Camp is located in one of the most beautiful environments along the Southern California coast at the Newport Dunes Resort and Marina. The beach is sheltered and calm and protected from the surf. Our location provides an excellent introduction to beach and aquatic activities.
The Resort is located at 1131 Back Bay Drive, near the intersection of Jamboree Road and Pacific Coast Highway in the city of Newport Beach.
